Shepherd Scholar Successes

Lonique Moore

Elizabeth Seton High School

Lonique Moore, a 2004 graduate of Elizabeth Seton High School, is an incredible success story. Lonique is a young woman who came from a tough childhood and has molded herself into an incredibly mature, independent and successful young woman. Currently pursuing her Master's of Science in Public Health from Tulane University in New Orleans, Moore graduated from Xavier University with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology/Pre-Med in May of 2008. While at Xavier, Moore was a member of the Varsity Cross Country Team and helped the team earn two league championships during her four years on the team.

When asked how the Shepherd's Foundation helped her to get where she is today, Moore says, "The Shepherd's Foundation Scholarship helped me tremendously. Without the Shepherd's Foundation Scholarship the likelihood of me having the opportunity to go to Xavier and on to Tulane with such success may not have been possible."

Moore still enjoys actively volunteering and working with the underserved children in uptown New Orleans as well as other low income areas in Louisiana. When asked why she values a Catholic education Moore says, "Because it has truly prepared me academically, socially, and spiritually for a quality experience in many aspects including higher education and life in general." Moore goes to comment on her experience at Elizabeth Seton High School saying, "My experience at Elizabeth Seton was one of the most life-changing experiences. I watched myself grow from a child to a young adult that was properly guided and prepared to meet life's challenges on my own. When I graduated from Elizabeth Seton, I was prepared to make responsible decisions. Everyday of my life I thank God for placing me in the hands of the staff at the school and taking my life toward the spirit of Elizabeth Ann Seton".

Miss Moore is currently attending graduate school at Tulane University. She is also investigating the possibility of attending medical school following graduate school.

Where are you now?

Currently, I am attending Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, obtaining a Master's of Science in Public Health (MSPH).I am considering obtaining a double degree in Epidemiology as well.

In May 2008, I graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Pre Med.While attending Xavier University, I ran cross country and assisted in winning two championships during my four years there.

How did the Shepherd's Foundation scholarship help you?

The Shepherd's Foundation Scholarship helped me tremendously.Without the Shepherd's Foundation Scholarship the likelihood of me having the opportunity to go to Xavier and Tulane with such success may not have been possible.

Why do you value a Catholic Education?

I value a catholic education because it has truly prepared me academically, socially, and spiritually for a quality experience in many aspects including higher education and life in general. I have felt prepared for different situations and stressors because of my catholic education.

What are you interests and activities?

Most of my interests are centered on the traditions introduced to me in my formative years through catholic education and catholic faith. In particular, I strive to help the underserved and impoverished individuals in society. If it weren't for the catholic institution's faith and belief in me, I cannot say I would necessarily have the confidence, will, and strength to believe I can do and be anything I want to today.

The activities I enjoy most are volunteering and working with the underserved children in uptown New Orleans and other low income areas. I also love to dance and run.

What are your current and future dreams?

My current goal is to complete Graduate School at Tulane University. In the future, I dream of possibly going on to medical school. Additionally, I plan on working in an area where I will be doing research on epidemiology.

What did your experience at Elizabeth Seton High School mean to you?

My experience at Elizabeth Seton was one of the most life-changing experiences in my entire life. I watched myself grow from a child to a young adult that was properly guided and prepared to meet life's challenges on my own. When I graduated from Elizabeth Seton, I was prepared to make responsible decisions that I could be proud. I learned how to hold myself accountable for these decisions.

At Seton, others believed in me even when I was uncertain of myself. I was nurtured, redirected and always made to believe that I was truly special.I was never allowed to accept or expect anything less than the very best of myself.Every day of my life I thank God for placing me in the hands of the staff at the school and taking my life toward the spirit of Elizabeth Ann Seton.
